Monday, 1st September.
Sunny September morning, but it didn’t last long. Just when Kathleen arrived to pick me up,the rain was pouring down. Enjoyed lunch at Longniddry Inn, though it’s becoming a bit shabby. It’s just been taken over, so hopefully it‘ll improve soon. Food was good though and the company of course. Discussed schools, past and present, books we’ve been reading, Times Quiz, American and British politics, local and national news and most importantly our families, especially our grandchildren.
Sun had came back by the time I came home, so watered and deadheaded my pot plants and sat up the back garden in “Betty’s Bower” that John made for me.Feel very close to him there.Kay phoned.Started her new job as PA to Sir Timothy Clifford, so was telling me all about it. Sounds really interesting and more suited to her talents than the last job she had, plus the hours are more flexible. Margo phoned just after her. Ailie came home with a certificate from her History teacher for being the best at designing a poster about the history of the 20th Century. Glad she's settling down fine at
secondary school.
Something wrong with my email.Receive messages, but can’t send them. One of the boys will look at it later.Bobby phoned.Going to call in on his way home tomorrow to look at it.
Sunday 31st August
Raining heavily, but makes the grass greener Don’t think it will grow so quickly now. At church in morning, then at Sandra’s, as she had an open house day for neighbours and some friends from school. Good laughs and lovely food.Choir started again on Friday. Thought about giving up when we finished up for the summer, but changed my mind.I’ll maybe change back again if it’s a severe winter! Anyway, doing some more demanding pieces. More of a challenge.Out with Jean for tea again on Saturday. We’ve decided to do this on a regular basis, maybe once a month.Doing fine with Times Literary Quiz, but meeting friends from school tomorrow, so I’ll take it with me.

At Home with the Hamiltons
Saturday, 29th December.
Bobby here in morning. Thank goodness took some of rubbish to skip, as I missed bin collection this week and it was overflowing! Sorted wires coming from hut which had fallen down and put new bulbs in wall lights. All the wee tasks John used to take care of.
Had happy afternoon at Helen's again. She had an "At Home" for Rory and Ian & Kirsten and Kenny as both weddings this year.Enjoyed meeting loads of people I hadn't seen for ages and food was provided by Ruth, school friend of Rory who has her own catering business. It was superb. Helen must be exhausted. with all the preparations, visitors,Christmas etc. Her house is super for entertaining, as people can spread out a bit. It has such character too and she has the knack of adding lots of interesting touches to it. Wee ones really enjoyed themselves . I thought they might have been bored, but they had great time. Came home with Arthur and Catherine.Margo & co. called in on way home. Made a cup of tea. Jonathan wants to come and stay with me on Hogmanay.

Theatre Visit
Thursday, 3rd October
Went round to Jean’s to discuss theatre visits. She always makes our morning tea/coffee so special. with cups and saucers and lovely napkins and most all her home baking, Gardener here in afternoon, so everything looking much tidier.
Thoroughly enjoyed “The Importance of being Earnest”, though we all agreed that Penelope Keith was a big disappointment. She didn’t come across as the imposing character we all expect Lady Bracknell to be. In fact, we could hardly hear her voice. I’ve spoken to others who were there and they said the same. The younger characters were much better and of course the costumes and sets were excellent..
Friday, 4th October.
Usual shopping and hairdresser’s. Jean D’Arcy arrived in afternoon. So nice to see her. She was at Preston Lodge making arrangements for the prelim invigilations. I promised if she was stuck any time I would come up, thought I’m glad I don’t do it now on a regular basis. Sandra phone to ask me over for wine/ coffee/ tea. It was lovely sitting on her garden patio and she’s gradually putting her stamp on the house, with her books, plants etc.
Choir practice at night. New member, Jane, arrived. A newcomer to Prestonpans and an experienced contralto. It made a difference having harmony again.
