Phone call early from Rae-checking ok for a visit. Arrived about 9.30. She looked absolutely terrible.I’ve been worried about her for a while. I’m sure there’s more wrong than the light allergy she suffers from. She can’t sit in the conservatory because of the sunlight and was going to sit up the back garden for a cigarette, but I told her it was far too cold and to smoke in the house if she wanted. She looks so thin and weak. When I made oatcakes and cheese for us later on she couldn’t cut the cheese, yet is much younger than me. She’s always been a strong person too.
Told me her daughter, Anna is getting married on 17th December and she doesn’t feel up to planning a wedding. Took some photos of Kirsten away with her to get ideas about dress. I also gave her note of good caterers. I wish Anna would just arrange everything herself as Rae is really not able.
We had a bit of a laugh though, discussing some of the lecturers and tutors at university when we were there. One sang a madrigal in the lecture hall once and another appeared in a toga when we did Julius Caesar! How we wished we'd had more time to enjoy the courses, especially English language. If we weren't so old and unfit we'd like to study again at our leisure, before our brains seize up as well as everything else!
Joyce phoned to tell me Dillon is back! Dick explained that he had a phone call from the emergency vet at the Braids in Edinburgh, telling him he was there. Someone ( must have been an animal lover!) had found him in Prestonpans and taken him in. The local vet had passed Dick’s “missing” message so they were able to make contact. When he collected him he’d to pay £500! He has some injuries, so they’re keeping him indoors at the moment so there’s a happy ending! Helen arrived. She’d been along to see him.Gave me some official photos of Rory's wedding.
